SELNET is governed by a board of volunteers drawn from member organisations, who meet regularly to manage and monitor its development and progress.

SELNET's Strategic Objectives
To achieve its mission statement aims, SELNET has the following core objectives:
- Raise the profile of Social Enterprises in the business community, in local government and with the public and promote them as an option to other business models.
- Represent the interests of the Social Enterprise Sector in general and its members in particular, in local, regional and national government and with government agencies.
- Provide and facilitate mutual support amongst Social Enterprises.
- Help organisations wishing to do so to become Social Enterprises, particularly at the start up stage, and support those that are trading to grow and become stronger.
Lancashire Social Enterprise Strategy and Action Plan (2005-2007)
In 2005 the sector was supported by a grant of £300,000 from the NWDA. The Lancashire Social Enterprise Strategy and Action Plan (2005-2007) was delivered through the Lancashire Social Enterprise Partnership Board comprising of SELNET Board members and a range of public sector agencies including: NWDA, Lancashire Economic Partnership, Lancashire County Council (LCDL), Blackpool Council, Jobcentre Plus, Development Trust Association, Business Link Lancashire and the Learning and Skills Council.
This development activity was further supported and enhanced through Lancashire County Developments Ltd (LCDL's) financial contribution to the sector. They funded SELNET's website www.selnet-uk.com and a unique Procurement Officer post and website www.selnetprocurement-uk.com. LCDL also developed the Energy Efficiency Programme comprising of free audits and grants for social enterprises.
