Specialist Social Enterprise Business Advice

Lead by the Selnet Manager, an experienced business adviser and social enterprise practitioner, Selnet has joined together with 8 social enterprise organisations currently delivering business support across Lancashire.

Our advisers and business mentors are experienced in the different business models and able to advise on those most suitable for a community organisation or social enterprise. These are different from private business models and their features will include:

  • Social Enterprises strive to be sustainable, self financing businesses. Social Enterprises create and retain wealth, reinvesting surpluses in the communities they serve; they create jobs
  • Social Enterprises are autonomous organisations with governance and ownership structures based on participation by stakeholder groups - which are usually clients or local community groups
  • Profits are used for the benefit of the community and re-invested in the business.
  • Involving its members and stakeholders in the democratic management of the organisation
  • Being an independent organisation accountable to a defined community interest and to the wider community
