Cabinet Office for the Third Sector
Cabinet Office 'Third sector access to finance' report
The report findings aim to help improve understanding of current and potential future demand for external finance to support the establishment and development of third sector organisations. The study reports that the third sector is facing a significant transitional period whereby many organisations are moving from grant funding to contract-based income or to more independent income generation and debt finance. It also reports that debt finance is still widely perceived to be high risk, and that use of equity is non-existent.

Credit Union report
ABCUL's response to the HM Treasury review of co-operative and credit union legislation is now available to download. The response, based upon wide consultation with members, outlines a number of changes which will enable the credit union movement to deliver a range of sustainable, inclusive financial services to anyone in Britain. These changes will also enable credit unions to have a far larger involvement in Government policy agendas including financial inclusion and financial capability. Key to the ability of credit unions to scale up are legislative changes to enable credit unions to: 1) Choose to whom they provide services within a restricted membership; 2) Develop new products to meet the changing needs of members and attract new members; and 3) Attract inward investment and raise credibility through provision of services to social housing providers, employers and other corporate members.
